Martin Vajčner: Blaufränkisch Qvevri 2020

Martin took the clay from around his plots and trucked it clear across the country so he could get a Czech Qvevri maker to make his out of local elements only. Maceration for 12 months on the skins in these self made Moravian Qvevri and then matured in French oak. The oak is used several times, so adds mostly depth & spice, a little whiff of sweetness, but no strong wood flavour. Spontaneous fermentation, zero added sulfur. Incredibly smooth tannins for a full year of skin contact. Dark fruits, whisper of earth, and excellent exemplar of the Blaufränkisch experience.
