Marada: Riesling Sekt 2018

Marada is known for making great wild boy Pét-Nats but he's equally studied & skilled at making Sekt using a traditional methode champenoise. He is actually kind of obsessed with using secondary fermentation in the bottle! His birthday gift from his wife was a giant coffee table book all about Champagne & the producers, how it is made, secrets of the flavors & terroir, plus lots of ultra nerdy stuff like sugar to gas pressure ratios. We got to taste this Riesling Sekt while it was still on the fine lees, around 14 months, 1 month before it was disgorged. The Riesling was seemingly the most fruity of his Sekt bottles this year. Less acidity than a usual Riesling (possibly the dosage of 3g), a ton of fine bubbles, creaminess. Gooseberry aromas on the nose. A little more citrus & sour apple on the palate. Completely dry, in fact, officially it lands as Extra Dry with the minimal dosage.
