Amfora Reserva 2018 is a deep, structured skin-contact white from the Herzánovi family in Kobylí — made from Grüner Veltliner, all aged for over a year in Georgian clay amphorae. It’s a meditative, cellar-worthy wine that shows just how far Moravian winemaking can go. This wine deserves a big glass—give it space and time and it will open up beautifully.

What makes this wine special? Each grape spent extended time on skins in handmade clay qvevris buried in the ground—a traditional method that enhances structure and earth-driven complexity. The result is layered and textural, with notes of dried orange peel, cedar, spice, and a gentle oxidative touch.

This bottle is perfect for... slow food – shared moments – long evenings with no rush.

Pair it with... aged cheeses – tagines – roasted squash – anything that calls for a little grip and depth in the glass.

How the wine is made

Grapes were hand-harvested, destemmed, and fermented on skins in buried clay amphorae (qvevri) using only native yeasts. The wine stayed in amphora for over a year, with no pumping, fining, or filtering. No additives—just time, gravity, and pure grape character.

Fun Fact

This was Herzánovi’s first-ever amphora-aged wine, and they buried the vessels right in their home vineyard—literally grounding their most ambitious cuvée in local soil. Only a few hundred bottles were made, and it’s rarely repeated.
